Private Music Lessons
We believe everyone is a musician—even you. And you’d be happier if you played more.
Our lesson program was designed to focus on the fun of playing a musical instrument. Too many places put the emphasis on the rigor of study and formal learning, but we believe that playing music should be fun. When a student is having fun, they can’t help but learn. Our approach is so revolutionary that other stores across the country reach out to us to learn how we run such a successful program!
We offer instrument lessons for band and orchestra, guitar, bass, ukulele, piano, voice, violin, drums, and specialty instruments including classical guitar, mandolin, and banjo. If you need an instrument, our staff is eager to help with all of your musical needs, from books and accessories to finding the right instrument.
Our on-site suite of private lesson rooms make lessons convenient and safe for you and your family. Lessons are also available on a remote basis - either permanently, or as needed.
Lessons are one-to-one, and are 30 minutes in length.
Rates are $99 per month and includes one lesson per week.
Our teachers are highly qualified and have all the skills necessary to make your lesson experience satisfying and rewarding.
Our piano, drum, and guitar studios are equipped with well-maintained, quality instruments.

Sean Clavin has been teaching for over 25 years, averaging over 80 students a month in California. He moved to the Branson area in 2003 with Roy Rogers Jr. & The High Riders. For the past 16 years, he performed over 300 shows per year as their lead guitarist, dobro and mandolin player, and worked as a staff guitarist for Road Records & Chameleon Productions in SWMO. He has recorded eight full-length CDs.

Ben has over 20 years of playing experience, and he has been with Springfield Music since 2007. Ben holds a degree in Contemporary Music, and loves playing Blues, Rock, Folk and Acoustic music. His Favorite bands/players are Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tommy Emmanuel and Joe Pass. A nicer guy you will not meet! And a GREAT teacher!

Multi-instrumentalist and performer, Tavish Lawson, has been playing music since 2003. Tavish acquired his Certificate of Music Theory & Composition through Berklee College of Music. He has worked as a music instructorsince 2013. Tavish teaches guitar, bass, ukelele, and drums.

My name is Tyler Textor and I graduated from Willard High School in Willard, Missouri. I’m currently pursuing a degree in Instrumental Music Education through Missouri State University in hopes to continue to spread my passion for music to the next generation. I’ve played brass for many years now and can’t wait to teach more and more students!

Mariah Alberty Mariah has been playing flute and piccolo for over 12 years, and during that time, she has marched with the Kickapoo High School Golden Arrow Band and Missouri State University’s PRIDE Marching Band, played in Missouri State’s Bearmania Pep Band, and has been a member of several Concert Bands. She is currently studying Elementary Education at Missouri State and plans on graduating in May of 2023. Music has been a big part of her life, and she is excited to share that passion with others.

Madison DeWeerd teaches Violin, Viola, Cello, AND Upright Bass. Madison is a recent Mizzou graduate with her degree in Instrumental Music Education and she has worked extensively with the Missouri State String Project in Springfield. Madison enjoys teaching beginning and intermediate string players of all ages.

Chris has been playing music for most of his life, beginning with his primary instrument — guitar — at age 4. Along the way he gained proficiency on bass, drums, piano, violin, and cello. Teaching seemed a logical profession, and seemingly in the blink of an eye, fifteen years have passed! Over the years Chris has recorded dozens of albums, and performed over 1,000 shows across the country, with countless bands/artists, tackling every genre of music, from blues to funk, jazz to outlaw country, and beyond. Chris has shared the stage with a number of diverse artists, including Barry Williams (The Brady Bunch), Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein (The Misfits), pioneering British heavy metal legends Diamond Head, and more. While he enjoys nearly every genre of music, heavy metal (in its various forms) is his favourite. When he's not teaching, playing golf, or watching classic horror movies, he is practicing/writing/performing with his melodic/traditional metal band, Transylvania. Chris is thrilled to be part of the Springfield Music team, and intends to inspire in his students, the same enthusiasm he enjoys for music.

Kahlan is a classically trained pianist who began her music journey in 2008. While piano is her primary, she has also studied flute, alto saxophone, and conducting. She is currently studying communications at Evangel University with a minor in music recording technology. She has a great love for sharing music and making connections!

Instructor - Banjo, Mandolin
Deakin has always held a deep connection to music. As he grew up in the Ozarks in the 80's and 90's, his fascination with all things bluegrass grew as well. He started playing banjo under Roger Mathews in 2005. In 2009, he started a bluegrass band called Deep Fried Squirrel, which is now known as Drifter's Mile. Deakin is super excited to teach others his love for all things bluegrass, and is now accepting beginning or intermediate banjo students.

Matteson Gregory is a singer-songwriter who resides in the Springfield area. Growing up with her dad playing in bands, instruments throughout the house, and family karaoke nights Matteson has always had a passion for music. Since 2008, she has been performing at various restaurants and bars throughout the Ozarks and Northwest Arkansas. Over the years, Matteson has also worked on her craft as a songwriter by taking trips to Nashville to both write and record music. Her dreams as a singer-songwriter came true once she released her first single in 2018 followed by performing more and more shows throughout the years. Matteson has been a student at Ernie Williamson Music since 2019 and was excited when she was asked to take over vocal lessons. She hopes that she can inspire her students to pursue their dreams in music.

Tyler VanVolkinburg has over 20 years of playing and performing experience ranging in multiple styles and instruments. Tyler started with his first guitar at age of 7 and went onto play trumpet, electric bass, upright bass, piano, and percussion at Ozark High School. He went on to study Jazz Studies at Missouri State University playing bass in multiple jazz bands, quads for the MSU PRIDE band drumline, and guitar/ bass for several of his own bands locally and across the country. Tyler comes from a family of professional musicians and has had a lifelong passion for creating, teaching, and performing music. He looks forward to guiding new students down their own musical journey!

Phoenix Lietch started playing guitar in 2015. He later picked up the bass and ukulele in 2018. He's a part of the Missouri Air National Guard, a full time college student, and is starting his dream by pursuing his career in music. His favorite type of music is Classic/ Indie Rock; his favorite band is The Beatles. He is excited to teach the basics of playing guitar, bass, and ukulele; Phoenix is passionate about giving the gift of music.

Howdy! I first started playing drums when I was 3 years old. When I was 9 I began playing on my church's adult worship team. When I was 14 I started my own rock band and began playing shows around Springfield. Now I am a a national touring stand up comedian that uses any excuse possible to sneak drums into my show. I just want to have fun and make a lot of noise.

Orion McKenzie has been playing violin for 8 years. Growing up with a musically talented family he grew quickly to love the instrument. He has had masterclasses and private lessons from prominent violinists Laura Black, a respected student of Josef Gingold, a famous pedagogue and performer. Also taking lessons and masterclasses from Hal Grossman, creator of the Grossman method, and a student of Sylvia Rosenberg and even learning from Issac stern. He had a lesson with Sheryl staples, the co-concertmaster of the New York philharmonic, teacher of Julliard and Manhattan school of music. He is a current student of Dr. David hays concertmaster of the SSO, and professor of MSU, and has taken lessons with Dr.Lee of OU, Dr.Talbott, Dr. Muchnick of MSU, Esther Fellows, Stephen Hamm, Patti Gaddis, Paulo Eskitch, Ian Jett and Joan Griffing. He was concertmaster of his high school orchestra, in the high-school quartet where he won local and state competitions both soloistically for violin, and ensemble with viola, with the Union Small ensemble. the Tulsa chamber festival quartet where he played viola, the Missouri State undergraduate quartet (violin) NEXUS chamber orchestra. (violin) and was assistant concertmaster at the ICT young artists academy with concertmaster and soloist Hal Grossman. He is currently pursuing his undergraduate at Missouri State University for violin performance with a minor in viola.

Amanda graduated from Missouri Southern State University, and she always start each student's initial lesson by asking what are their goals while in her studio, have them play to see where their ability lies, and then build the lessons from there. She has been in band since 6th grade and has loved every minute of it and wants to share that experience with her students. She encourages all of her students to explore new possibilities and she is more than happy to guide them to their full potential.

Amanda is an integral part of the Ernie Williamson Music team where she works directly with customers, helps coordinate the music lessons program and teaches piano and harp. In fact, Amanda has taught music since 2009. She plays the piano and harp. Outside of her musical interests, Amanda is a talented writer, a huge cupcake fan, and a mom and wife!

Sam has been passionate about music since the young age of 4. He mainly plays each Sunday at Carthage Church of the Nazarene and loves to train new drummers. He was also an all-in band student and played in the marching band and jazz band.

Emily is graduated from Missouri Southern State University with a degree in instrumental music education k-12 and aspires to become a middle or high school band director. She has played in various ensembles including the invitation-only Four State Symphonic Winds. She also traveled to five different countries in 2018 to study music abroad in Europe, and she is so excited to share her love for music with her students!

Nick first picked up an electric guitar at age 11, and for 3 decades he has enjoyed creating music, jamming with friends, and teaching others to play. Along the way he has taken up electric bass, drums, mandolin, piano, and ukulele. Nick also works as a hospital chaplain for Freeman Health System, and is the father of five awesome children

Zane Grimes fell in love with the guitar at 6 years old and hasn't stopped playing since. Comfortable with all genres especially country and rock, his favorite thing to teach would be the blues! When Zane isn't teaching you can find him playing out around the Joplin area as much as possible with his band. His favorite thing about teaching is the "lightbulb moment" when everything just clicks for the student.

I have been playing drums since 2010, starting out a youngster playing in churches and working my way up through the years to touring and studio sessions. I have experience playing in rock bands, jazz bands, and Christian bands. I am currently in a grunge rock band called Violets Are Blue, fulfilling my dream of pursuing musical performance as a lifestyle since I was born. I’ve also received multiple outstanding musicianship awards from MSSU , PSU , MSU and Drury University. My hope for students is for them to feel as passionate as I am about percussion thru learning and performing!

Isaac Baldridge is an artist from the Midwest Tri-State Area of Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri. He was born in 1993 under the Cherokee Nation Capital - Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Raised in Bentonville, Arkansas, he began his musical journey at the age of 12. Isaac is most well known for his outstanding guitar playing, but he is also a multi-talented producer with over a decade of experience; thus, he performs multiple instruments and sings.

Brendon has been playing guitar since 2010 when he fell in love with his first electric guitar. His favorite thing to play on the guitar is the next thing he learns! Playing guitar is not easy, so when I finally see a little progression or get that thing down that I’ve been working on, it becomes my new favorite thing to play every time. When not playing guitar or teaching he spends time hanging out with his kids and having fun! My hope for every student is to make some sort of connection that sticks with them forever. Music makes that connection easy.

Logan has been playing guitar and bass since 2014, and along the way, he has picked up some level of ability on several other instruments. He has a very strong music theory background due to completing all levels of college music theory courses from MSSU, this has led to his love of playing jazz. His other musical experiences have been playing in rock, punk, and folk/blues bands since high school, and he takes every opportunity to play with others and wants his students to feel that same draw towards music and performing.

Laurel has been playing piano for 13 years, and violin and viola for 11 years. She studied under Kylee VanHorn in the Joplin school district for 7 years and took private lessonsfor 7 years. She is in school at Missouri Southern State University for middle school and high school education. She completed her junior internship at Carthage High School as a high school English co teacher. She also has almost 2 years of childcare experience via several childcare programs. She is really excited to share her passion for music with her students!

-- Larry Crabtree

Larry has been teaching lessons professionally since 1989. He has taught at Big Dude’s Music City, Raymore Music, Music Stand, Music Gallery, and since 2008 at Ernie Williamson in Shawnee.
Larry has been playing and performing as a musician since the age of 7. His father was a well known Country guitarist in Kansas City, and taught him the basics. Larry learned much by sitting in on jam sessions hosted by his father with some very accomplished players. Larry played in bands starting at age 12, and all through school. He played in Jazz Bands in high school, and studied jazz, funk, and rock. He has performed in every setting imaginable from clubs to churches to wedding receptions.
In the 70′s he took lessons from a local jazz guitar instuctor named John Theis. He has compiled many hours on creating a comprehensive and methodical approach to teaching, and is in the process of writing a series of books on the topic.

Jeff Kruger was born and raised in Springfield, IL. Jeff has been teaching guitar for over 30 years. He started playing by picking up his dad’s guitars when he was a young boy and fell in love with the art. He has taught at Samuel Music, The Rock Shop, and Capital City Music, all in Springfield, IL.
He studied at Springfield College in Illinois where he majored in Music with a focus on classical guitar. Jeff was a member of 2 very successful bands in the Springfield, IL area during his time there, with both receiving awards voted on by the community in a local publication. He is also a part of the Praise Team at the church he attends and has played on Praise Teams for the last 20 years.
Jeff’s passion for music is shown in his care for his students. Over the years Jeff has taught students as young as 5 years old to those in retirement. He has had several students over the years get accepted into prestigious music programs across the country. They include Milliken University in Decatur, IL, Berklee School of Music in Boston, MA, DePaul University in Chicago, IL, and Belmont University in Nashville, TN. He has also taught a student working with a record label in Nashville, TN.

I've been playing guitar for 12 years and failed a music theory class my first semester of college. That failure sparked a curiosity and love for music and music theory that hasn't gone out since. I found my roots and first love for guitar in hard rock and metal music but have since grown to love and appreciate all other genres of music and styles of guitar playing such as latin and flamenco guitar, jazz, classical music and hip hop. My biggest musical inspirations are Polyphia, Manual Gardner Fernandez and Plini.

Logan is a guitarist with over 14 years experience. He grew up in Eldon, MO, playing Trombone in his high school's marching band and jazz ensemble. Often performing as a soloist, he has studied many genres, including; Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Folk, and Country. When not playing or teaching guitar, Logan enjoys reading, hanging out with friends, watching documentaries, and listening to podcasts. He looks forward to continuing to grow his lesson studio, as well as to guiding his students to grow as guitarists and musicians!

Ashley is a Missouri State University graduate with her Masters to teach vocal and instrumental music. She has performed internationally with the resort company Club Med for five years as a singer, dancer, and aerialist. Ashley is excited to be back in the Kansas City area, as the last time she lived in the area was back in 2015. She looks forward to helping others grow in their passion and skills.

Michael Cosentino is a classically trained guitarist with 18 years of experience in a variety of musical styles. He started his studies under John Mcclellan at the St. Louis Symphony Music School and continued to earn a BM of music performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music where he studied with John Holmquist and Jason Vieaux. He has also performed in master classes with Ben Verdery, Stantley Yates, William Kanengiser, Carlos Barbosa Lima, Scott Tenennt, Antigoni Goni, Elena Papandreou, Steven Aaron, and David Russell. He has also performed though out most of the United States with numerous rock bands since 1993.

Bill Davis is one of our long-standing instructors, passing his 15-year anniversary with us in 2021. A very versatile musician and teacher of all guitar styles, he studied music and jazz studies. When not teaching at Fazio’s, Bill can be seen tearing up the St. Louis music scene with his band Unifyah. A great guy!

Ben DeClue has been playing guitar for over a decade, and he also plays bass guitar, ukulele, and piano. He is heavily influenced by progressive metal, jazz, punk, and ska. He graduated with an associate degree from St. Louis Community College in May of 2019. After having studied music theory at STLCC, he has spent much time exploring the topics of extended harmony and mode mixture on his own in efforts to completely understand what exactly makes jazz and R&B music so magical and dreamy.

Emma Vedder is a music therapy student at Maryville University. She has been playing piano since she was five years old. Emma started playing by ear and began taking lessons when she was six. She enjoys playing classical music and popular songs, as well as fiddling around with jazz music and composing. While her first love will always be piano, Emma also enjoys playing guitar and ukulele.

Music has always been a big part of Ani's life. She's played Piano since 2004 and has played Clarinet since 2006. She was heavily involved in her high school band with clarinet and contra alto clarinet, jazz band with piano, and her church’s music programs. She graduated with a Bachelors of Arts Music Degree focusing on Piano at Central Methodist University in 2019 and has taught piano privately before and during college. When not doing anything musical, you can either find her outside, cooking, or sewing.

I have been playing guitar since 2008, and saxophone since 2007. My career in music is largely based on the pure simple enjoyment of playing. I liked playing the guitar so much that I decided to focus my training on guitar while attending Central Methodist University to become a Band Director, making saxophone my primary for band and guitar a primary for lessons and jazz. I graduated in 2018 with a Bachelors of Music Education and can’t wait to be the best music instructor I can be.

Mario has been playing guitar since 1973. He plays a variety of styles. He studied classical form for two years with John Grimes. Music has always been an integral part of Mario ‘s life. Mandolin and harmonica are also on Mario‘s repertoire. He looks forward to interacting with students and helping them achieve their musical goals!

Music is such a big important part of Mia’s life. Mia has been playing the flute since 2015, and then moved on to play saxophone and baritone. She graduated from Eureka High School and is currently attending St. Louis Community College. When she's not practicing music or teaching others, you can often find Mia outside working color guard. Mia is looking forward to helping you get started or advancing on your instrument!

Brianna Bundy graduated from East Central College with an Associates of Arts degree in Music. She went on to receive her Bachelors of Science degree in Music Therapy. Brianna is proficient in clarinet, guitar, piano, and voice. Music is a great passion of her’s, as well as seeing progress in her students. Outside of teaching, you may find Brianna hiking, enjoying the outdoors, and spending time with her family and fiancé.

Patrick Downey was born and raised in St. Louis, MO and attended Parkway schools. He first played the drums when he was 7 years old, but didn’t begin playing in earnest until he was 13. He is largely self-taught, but studied with Brett Voelker and then later ErnieWilliamson’s own Rich Hensley. He has performed at several prominent St. Louis venues, playing with acts embarked on nationwide tours.

Hans Mohr is a graduate of Lindenwood University with a BA in Music Business. Born and raised in St. Louis he is a multi-instrumentalist with piano being his primary instrument. Hans also teaches guitar, bass along with drum set. Jazz piano is his musical passion, but can play and teach multiple genres. He runs and coaches cross-country running, as well as records music.

Ashley McFarland is a Music Therapy student at Maryville University, and has her associates degree in music from Jefferson College. She plays a wide variety of instruments that she has learned in her last 12 years as a musician. These instruments include: flute, clarinet, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, guitar, and piano!

As a music instructor, Harrison specializes in electric and acoustic guitar, bass, and ukulele. Since 2015, Harrison has been teaching students in private and group environments, many of whom would go on to perform live. He has performed in numerous music groups in live venues and was a group leader for 3 years in his music student organization in college at SIU in Carbondale, IL. Harrison's core belief is in making music accessible and fun for all skill levels and all ages.

Skye Terrell has spent 11 years studying drums and percussion, and has spent many years polishing his craft. Having studied at Webster University, he has experience in every area of percussion - not limited to the drumset, he plays concert percussion, mallet percussion, and hand percussion. Though his primary instrument is the drumset, he has a passion and a love for every single musical instrument under the sun, and is willing to teach just about everything he knows to help you appreciate it just as much as he does.

Noah is a skilled and versatile guitarist with a passion for music. He has been recognized as one of the best young guitarists in the state of Missouri, having been named the Missouri high school all-state jazz guitarist twice and a Missouri high school all-district jazz guitarist four times. He has honed his craft from a very young age, playing gigs in a variety of styles ranging from blues, rock, pop, jazz and acoustic since he was around the age of 12. He plans on attending Webster University and pursuing a music degree to further his music career.
