2000 Paul Reed Smith Swamp Ash Special Electric Guitar, Tri-Sunburst, 8lbs 1oz
Used. In great condition. One owner. PRS Phase II tuners installed some years ago. Some normal playwear here and there but no significant dents or dings. Some slight tarnishing on the nickel pickups covers, and tremolo. Professionally setup and ready to play. This is just a fantastic instrument no longer in production. Structurally solid and plays great. Comes with original hardshell case.
If you're all about versatility, the PRS Swamp Ash Special will suit you perfectly. With a Swamp Ash Special, you can play jazz, blues, fusion, rock'n'roll, pop, rock, funk (this is a VERY funky axe!!) and only carry one guitar to the gig! How does PRS do it? Take their great sounding wide-fat maple neck, add a swamp ash body carved the traditional PRS way and finish it off with a unique pickup combination.
PRS Swamp Ash Special at a Glance:
- Swamp Ash body tri sunburst finish
- McCarty neck and bridge pickups with a Semour Duncan Vintage Rails in the middle position.
- Volume and push/pull tone control with 3-way toggle pickup selector
The Wood and Neck
Swamp Ash is a prized wood for many reasons. It is a very musical wood offering a very nice balance of brightness and warmth with a lot of "pop". Swamp Ash is famous for its midrange snarl and biting response. The grain is open and the color is creamy. It takes a finish beautifully and is light enough to resonate well but strong enough to be stable. The PRS Swamp Ash Special features a 22-fret rock maple neck with the special PRS 25" scale. The maple produces a wide, clear mid-range tone that has a tight bottom end.
The Electronics
McCarty pickups at the neck and bridge and a regular three-way switch provide all the fat humbucker tone you expect from a PRS, while a Seymour Duncan Vintage Rails in the middle position can be switched in via a push-pull pot to offer a multitude of single coil tonalities.
The silvery vintage tones of the McCarty pickups are the result of a unique manufacturing process taught to PRS by Ted McCarty, combined with a vintage alnico magnet and special nickel silver cover. It contains a few more turns on the coils to balance it with the neck position pickup, which is a little hotter than its 1950's counterpart.
The Seymour Duncan Vintage Rails pickup in the center position uses a unique split rail, twin coil design and special wiring to achieve true single coil tone without any hum. The sound is clean, clear and bright, with all that quack you love in the notch positions.
The Finish
Utilizing modern finishing technology, PRS has developed high-gloss finishes and stains that exquisitely highlight the color and grain of while retaining the fast, smooth feel of vintage lacquer.
Because color is an important component in any guitar's appearance, the PRS dyes are specially blended to look their best under stage lights, shining with such luster and brilliance that the guitar truly looks as good as it sounds. The finish of Swamp Ash Special pictured above is a tri sunburst.
